Top 100 American Literature
The African American Literature Book Club compiled a list of African-American children’s books with the aid of authors, power readers, and industry professionals. This list of more than 100 books opens the door to explore Black life in the United States. All books chosen affirm African-American children and their experiences.
We know children and young readers will enjoy most, if not all, of these books, as they have already brought joy to countless children. We recommend printed books for young readers, or when reading to a child. Some of these books are decades old, but are still in print due to their significance. Others are brand new, reflecting contemporary voices and themes.
Many books on the list are recipients of prestigious awards and honors including the Caldecott Medal, National Book Award, Coretta Scott King Book Award, and Newbery Medal.
How many books have you read or purchased that can be found on this list? Let us know in the comments below.
